APPROACH

Mental health counseling and sports performance consulting for athletes, parents, and everyday life.

When you’re managing day-to-day challenges and working toward personal or competitive goals, it’s important to recognize the connection between your mental well-being and performance.

My approach is individualized and practical. We work together to build clarity, confidence, and the mental skills to help you show up as your best self.

PRIMARY SERVICES

Mental health and a positive mindset change everything.

Working through life’s challenges? Are you an athlete or coach looking to level up your mindset? Mental fitness looks different for everyone. We can work together in a few ways to help you get there.

Mental Health Therapy

Counseling sessions are provided in-person in Glastonbury, CT and by secure Telehealth to individuals across Connecticut. Every session is a space to feel heard, gain clarity, and make progress on your goals. Currently in-network with Anthem, Aetna, Cigna, Optum, and Medicaid. Self-pay options are also available.

Coach Consultation & Team Culture Development

Managing performance, personalities, and team dynamics is demanding work! I partner with coaches and teams to intentionally build and strengthen culture. These sessions provide practical strategies to improve communication, accountability, and cohesion in ways that are hard to achieve from inside the program.

Sports Performance Consulting

In-person and virtual sessions through a secure platform are available to athletes in CT and across the country. Using evidence-based mental skills training and drawing off years of experience with athletes of all ages, together we build confidence, manage anxiety, navigate injury, and develop the mindset needed to grow and perform at your best.

Parent Strategy Sessions

Supporting a competitive athlete can be rewarding…and complicated! Youth and collegiate sports culture brings real pressure as you balance supporting your athlete and knowing when to step back. These sessions provide practical tools and professional insight to help with recruiting decisions, injury setbacks, and performance stress, while strengthening the relationship that matters most.

Payment is accepted by credit card prior to or at the time of service through a secure online portal.

ABOUT

Melissa Monroe

Licensed Professional Counselor, LPC

I became a therapist because I genuinely love helping people work through what’s holding them back.

As a lifelong athlete and parent of competitive athletes, I’ve experienced firsthand the rewards and pressures of sport. The combination of personal experience and clinical training is what led me to specialize in both mental health counseling and sports performance consulting.

I believe that performance and well-being are deeply connected. Whether I’m working with someone navigating a difficult season of life or an athlete working toward their next goal, my approach is the same: ask the right questions, listen, and guide progress through honest and supportive conversation.

Yes! I am currently accepting new clients for both mental health therapy and sports performance consulting. Reach out to schedule a free, 15-minute conversation to discuss your options.

Our first session is about getting to know you — your values, goals, and what you’re hoping to get out of our work together. From there, I build a tailored plan that guides everything we do going forward.

Of course not! Mental health counseling is for anyone managing stress, navigating transitions, or seeking balance in daily life. Sports performance consulting focuses more specifically on the athletic mindset and the unique demands of competition.

Sports performance consulting is goal-directed and focused on your specific sport or athletic pursuit. We build and apply mental skills, track progress, and celebrate wins along the way. It’s typically shorter in duration than therapy and laser-focused on performance outcomes.

Sports performance consulting is for any athlete looking to sharpen their mindset and gain a competitive edge. Many athletes come proactively to build stronger habits and develop pre- and post-performance routines. Athletes navigating downtime or working through an injury often benefit from our sessions!

Not at all! Build confidence, sharpen focus, manage pressure, bounce back from mistakes, stay motivated. These are skills every competitor can build, regardless of where they are in their season or career.

Every plan is built around your goals and what you need most. Sessions draw from a range of proven mental skills techniques including goal setting, visualization, breathing and grounding, confidence-building strategies, mindfulness, and performance preparation routines.

If you’ve ever felt mentally stuck, struggled with nerves, or feel like you’re not performing to your full potential, this work is for you. It’s also a great fit if you’re managing pressure from all directions or simply want to enjoy your sport more.
